MY COACHING FOR YOU, Peter Hoenig – https://www.my-coaching4you.de/
German version: INSTALLATION.txt

This guide is written for people without any IT knowledge. Read section 1 first. After that you only need
the section that matches your route.

How it is organised: every step has a number and exactly one action. What you click or type is in
“quotation marks” – exactly as it appears on the screen. Under many steps you will find “You now see …”;
if it looks different on your screen, the note underneath or section 9 “Common problems” usually helps.

1. Which route suits me?
------------------------
Go through the questions in order. At the first “Yes” you have found your route.

Question 1: Would you like to use the tools on your own, or try them out first – and save your work
as files, like a text document?
→ Yes: ROUTE A – Browser only. This is the easiest: no installation, no password,
no internet needed once the files are on your computer. It works on any Windows
computer, any Mac (including older ones) and on Linux.

Question 2: Would you like the whole suite just for yourself – with sign-in, a shared storage area for
all tools, document library, wiki, calendar, tasks and daily backup?
              → Windows 10 or 11: ROUTE B.
→ Mac with macOS 12 (Monterey) or newer: ROUTE C.
→ Linux: section 6.3 (for specialists).

Question 3: Should a whole team work together with the suite?
→ ROUTE D – Server on the company network. The person who looks after your servers
                sets this up.

The difference in two sentences: With route A, every tool works on its own with your own files. With
routes B, C and D, the suite runs invisibly in the background; you sign in in the browser, and all tools
save into one shared storage area that is backed up daily.

You can start small: route A now, the suite later. Your files from route A can be opened again in the
suite.

2. What you need
----------------
For all routes
  - A current browser: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
  - Internet for downloading. Route A needs no internet afterwards; for routes B and C the installation
also downloads PHP (15 to 35 MB). PHP is the programming language the suite runs on.
  - Time: route A about 5 minutes, route B or C about 15 minutes.

For route B (Windows)
  - Windows 10 or 11. To check: press the Windows key (the window symbol at the bottom left of the
keyboard) and the R key at the same time. Type “winver” and press Enter. You now see a window
“About Windows” with “Windows 11” or “Windows 10”.
  - The password of an administrator account (an account that is allowed to install programs). If you
set up the computer yourself, this is usually your own sign-in password.
  - About 1 GB of free storage space.

For route C (Mac)
  - macOS 12 (Monterey) or newer. It works with Intel Macs (for example a MacBook Pro from 2019) and with
Macs with an Apple chip. You do NOT need Homebrew, Xcode or other developer tools.
    To check your macOS version:
      1. Click the Apple symbol at the very top left of the screen.
      2. Click “About This Mac”.
You now see a window with the name of the version (for example “macOS Sonoma”) and below it
“Version 14.7”. The first number must be 12 or higher.
If it says 10.15 (Catalina) or 11 (Big Sur): your Mac may be updatable for free. In the Apple menu,
look under “System Preferences” › “Software Update” (on macOS 13 and later: “System Settings” ›
“General” › “Software Update”). A MacBook Pro from 2019, for example, can get macOS 15 (Sequoia). If
that does not work, take route A – it runs on every Mac.
  - The password you use to sign in to the Mac. Your user account must be an administrator; for the first
account on a Mac this is always the case.
  - About 1 GB of free storage space.

Where do I get the files?
All files are on the website of MY COACHING FOR YOU (www.my-coaching4you.de) in the area
  “Experimental” (later under “Resources”):
mc4y-werkzeuge.zip for route A (the tools only, without the suite)
mc4y-suite.zip for routes B, C and D (the whole suite; this guide is inside it)
mc4y-taskleiste.zip the desktop taskbar (section 12)

3. Route A – Browser only
-------------------------
You need the file “mc4y-werkzeuge.zip” (see section 2, “Where do I get the files?”).
On Windows you can also use the graphical installer of this package: follow section 4 up to step 10 and
in step 11 click “Browser only (easiest)”.

3.1 On Windows
  1. Download “mc4y-werkzeuge.zip”.
Your browser puts the file in the “Downloads” folder.
  2. Open Explorer: press the Windows key and E at the same time.
  3. Click “Downloads” on the left.
  4. Right-click “mc4y-werkzeuge” (or “mc4y-werkzeuge.zip”).
  5. Click “Extract All…”.
You now see the window “Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders”.
Tip: if the tools are to live in a fixed place, for example in “Documents”, choose it now via
“Browse…”. You should not move the folder later.
  6. Click “Extract”.
You now see a folder with a subfolder “MC4Y-Werkzeuge-0.4.15”.
  7. Double-click “MC4Y-Werkzeuge-0.4.15”.
  8. Double-click “index” (or “index.html”).
You now see the page “MC4Y tools” with all the tools in your browser.
If Windows asks which program to open the file with: choose “Microsoft Edge” or “Google Chrome”.
  9. Create a bookmark: press Ctrl + D and click “Done”.
 10. Click a tool. It opens in the browser.

3.2 On the Mac
  1. Download “mc4y-werkzeuge.zip”.
  2. Open the Finder (the blue-and-white face in the Dock) and click “Downloads” on the left.
  3. If you see “mc4y-werkzeuge.zip” there, double-click it.
You now see a folder “MC4Y-Werkzeuge-0.4.15”.
(Safari often unpacks the file by itself – then the folder is already there and the ZIP file is
     missing. That is fine.)
  4. Tip: now drag the folder to its permanent place, for example into “Documents”. You should not move
     it later.
  5. Double-click the folder “MC4Y-Werkzeuge-0.4.15”.
  6. Double-click “index.html”.
You now see the page “MC4Y tools” in your browser.
  7. Create a bookmark: press cmd + D (the Command key ⌘ and D) and click “Add”.
  8. Click a tool.
No Terminal, no password, no PHP – this works on every Mac, including with an older macOS.

3.3 On Linux
  1. Download “mc4y-werkzeuge.zip”.
  2. In the file manager, right-click the file and choose “Extract Here”.
  3. In the new folder, double-click “index.html”.

How to work with the tools
  - “Save” in the tool stores your work as a file. In Chrome and Edge you choose the location yourself;
in Safari and Firefox the file ends up in the “Downloads” folder. “Open” brings it back.
  - The browser remembers intermediate states. Your actual work, however, is the saved files – back them
    up like other documents.
  - At the top right of every tool you switch between German and English with “DE | EN”.
  - Nothing is transmitted.

4. Route B – The suite on this Windows computer
-----------------------------------------------
You need the file “mc4y-suite.zip” and the password of an administrator account (section 2).

Part 1: Download and unpack the package
  1. Download “mc4y-suite.zip”.
Your browser puts the file in the “Downloads” folder.
  2. Open Explorer: press the Windows key and E at the same time.
  3. Click “Downloads” on the left.
  4. Right-click “mc4y-suite” (or “mc4y-suite.zip”) and then click “Properties”.
You now see the window “mc4y-suite.zip Properties”.
  5. If the sentence “This file came from another computer …” appears at the bottom next to “Security”:
     tick “Unblock” there.
If nothing like that is shown, there is nothing to do.
(Why? Otherwise Windows will warn you at every later step, because the files come from the internet.)
  6. Click “OK”.
  7. Right-click “mc4y-suite” again and then click “Extract All…”.
You now see the window “Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders”.
  8. Click “Extract”.
You now see a folder with a subfolder “MC4Y-Suite-0.4.15”.
  9. Double-click “MC4Y-Suite-0.4.15”.
You now see, among other things, “Installer-starten”, “INSTALL” and the folders “app”, “install”
     and “public”.

Part 2: Start the installer
 10. Double-click “Installer-starten” (type “Windows Batch File”).
If a blue window “Windows protected your PC” appears: click “More info” and then “Run anyway”. (This
only happens if step 5 was not necessary or was forgotten.)
You now see a black window “MC4Y-Suite - Installer”. Keep it open until everything is finished. After a
few seconds your browser opens with the page “What would you like to set up?”.
If no browser opens: in the black window, under “If no browser opens: select this address, copy it
with the right mouse button and paste it into the browser:”, there is a long address. Select it with
the mouse, copy it (Ctrl + C or right-click) and paste it into the address bar of your browser
     (Ctrl + V, then Enter).
(The black window speaks the language of Windows; on a computer set to German, this line reads
     “Oeffnet sich kein Browser: …”.)

Part 3: In the installer (six steps, shown as a bar at the top)
 11. Click “The suite on this Windows computer” and then “Next →” at the bottom right.
(For route A, click “Browser only (easiest)” here instead.)
 12. Step “New or update”: You see “No existing installation found – a new installation will be made.”
     Click “Next →”.
(If the suite is already installed, this says “Existing installation found” – see section 10.)
 13. Step “Storage locations”: Next to “All locations on”, click a drive – if you only have one,
     “Drive C”.
You now see ready-made folders in the four fields Program, PHP, Data storage and Daily backups, and
underneath green hints such as “OK – will be created”.
If you have a second drive (D: or E:), it is a good idea to keep the backups there: under “Daily
     backups”, click the other drive.
 14. Click “Next →”.
 15. Step “Tools”: Leave everything selected and click “Next →”.
 16. Step “Prerequisites”: The installer checks your computer for a moment.
You now see a table. “⬇ will be installed” means: the installer downloads this in addition (for
example PHP from windows.php.net, or Python for the taskbar) – with the source given.
 17. Tick the box “I agree that these prerequisites will be downloaded and installed.”
 18. Click “Install”.
 19. Windows asks: “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?” (app: Windows
     PowerShell). Click “Yes”.
If your account is not an administrator, Windows asks here for the name and password of an
     administrator.
 20. Wait. You see a list of work steps that get a tick ✓ one after another.
This usually takes 2 to 10 minutes.
 21. You now see “Installation complete.” and the address http://127.0.0.1:8090/.
Click “Open suite” and continue with section 7.
 22. Afterwards, switch back to the installer and click “Close installer”.
     The black window closes.

From now on the suite starts by itself every time the computer starts. You can reach it only on this
computer, at the address http://127.0.0.1:8090/ (best saved as a bookmark). The installation also puts a
shortcut “MC4Y Productivity Suite” on the desktop and in the Start menu (if the installation ran in
German: “MC4Y-Produktivitaetssuite”).

5. Route C – The suite on this Mac
----------------------------------
You need the file “mc4y-suite.zip”, macOS 12 or newer and the password of your Mac account (section 2).
You do not need Homebrew: the installation downloads its own PHP itself and checks it against a fixed,
built-in checksum.

On the Mac, the safest way is the “Terminal”. This is a window into which you type commands. Don't worry:
you only enter two commands, which you can copy or type from this guide.
The installation script writes in English or German, like your Mac. The commands in this guide end with
“--lang en”, so the messages always appear in English, exactly as quoted here. Without “--lang en”, the
script uses the language of your Mac (on a Mac set to German, you then see German messages).
  - Copying a command: select it in this guide with the mouse and press cmd + C.
  - Pasting: click in the Terminal window and press cmd + V.
  - A command is only run when you press the Return key (⏎, also called “Enter”).
  - If the Terminal asks for a password, you see no characters while typing, not even asterisks.
That is intended. Just keep typing and press Return at the end.

Part 1: Download and unpack the package
  1. Download “mc4y-suite.zip”.
  2. Open the Finder (the blue-and-white face in the Dock) and click “Downloads” on the left.
  3. If you see “mc4y-suite.zip” there, double-click it.
You now see a folder “MC4Y-Suite-0.4.15”.
(Safari often unpacks the file by itself – then the folder is already there. That is fine.)
     Leave this Finder window open.

Part 2: Open the Terminal
  4. Press cmd + Space.
You now see the “Spotlight” search field in the middle of the screen.
  5. Type “Terminal” and press Return.
You now see a window with a line like “anna@MacBook-Pro ~ %” and a blinking line.
(Without Spotlight: Finder › “Applications” › “Utilities” › “Terminal”.)

Part 3: Go to the package folder
  6. In the Terminal, type the two letters cd followed by a space. Do NOT press Return yet.
  7. Drag the folder “MC4Y-Suite-0.4.15” with the mouse from the Finder window into the Terminal window
     and drop it there.
You now see the path to the folder after “cd ”, for example:
       cd /Users/anna/Downloads/MC4Y-Suite-0.4.15
  8. Press Return.
If macOS asks whether “Terminal” may access files in the “Downloads” folder, click “OK” (or
     “Allow”).

Part 4: Install
  9. Copy this command, paste it into the Terminal and press Return:

       bash install/macos/installieren.command --lang en

You now see “The installation needs administrator rights. Please type the password …” and below it
     “Password:”.
 10. Type the password you use to sign in to the Mac and press Return.
(No characters appear while you type.) If “Sorry, try again.” follows, the password was wrong –
     type it again.
You now see some details about your Mac, for example
PHP: suite PHP 8.4.23 for Intel Mac – will be downloaded during the installation …
and below that the question about the data folder.
 11. At “Data folder [/Library/Application Support/MC4Y-Suite-Daten]:” just press Return.
This accepts the suggestion in the square brackets.
You now see a “Summary” and the question “Set up the desktop taskbar for … as well? [Y/n]”.
 12. Press Return (this means “yes”). The desktop taskbar keeps the tools at hand, even without an open
browser (section 12). It needs Python; if Python is missing, the suite still runs and the script
explains how to add the taskbar later.
 13. At “Start the taskbar automatically when you sign in to your Mac? [Y/n]” press Return (“yes”) – or type
n if you prefer to start it yourself.
You now see the question “Run the installation now? (Return = yes) [Y/n]”.
 14. Press Return (this means “yes”).
 15. Wait. The work steps appear line by line, starting with the download of PHP.
This usually takes 1 to 5 minutes.
 16. You now see “Done. Address: http://127.0.0.1:8090/”. Your browser opens with the page “Set up the
     suite”. Continue with section 7.
 17. Then start the taskbar: cmd + Space, type “MC4Y”, choose “MC4Y Taskbar”, press Return. Sign it in with
the same user name and password as in the browser.
 18. Go back to the Terminal. It says “Press Return to close …”. Press Return and close the Terminal with
cmd + Q. The suite and the taskbar keep running.

From now on the suite starts by itself every time the Mac starts. You can reach it only on this Mac, at
the address http://127.0.0.1:8090/.

How to start the suite and the taskbar later
The installation creates two programs with an icon: “MC4Y Suite” (opens the suite in the browser) and
“MC4Y Taskbar”. You find both in Launchpad (the icon with the coloured tiles in the Dock; on macOS 26 it is
called “Apps”), via Spotlight (cmd + Space, type “MC4Y”, Return) and in the Finder under “Applications”.
Tip: drag the icons into the Dock.
Important: the taskbar you can switch on in the suite under “Your account” › “Appearance” belongs to the
browser window and disappears with it. The desktop taskbar “MC4Y Taskbar” stays open.
You switch the start at sign-in on or off in the taskbar: click 🔍, at the bottom “Settings” › box “Start
when signing in to the computer” › “Save” (from macOS 13 also under System Settings › General › Login
Items, section “Allow in the Background”).

For experts: the graphical installer
For most people the route above (bash installieren.command) is the easiest – it needs no Python and no extra
step. On the Mac the graphical installer is more for experts: it also runs only via the terminal and needs
  Python in addition.
On the Mac, the graphical installer needs Python. If it is not there, install it from
https://www.python.org/downloads/macos/ (“macOS 64-bit universal2 installer”; in the “Downloads”
folder, double-click the .pkg file and follow the steps). Then do steps 1 to 8 as above and, instead of
  step 9, enter: bash installer-starten.command
  In the browser, choose “The suite on this Mac” and follow the steps as in section 4 (part 3);
during the installation macOS asks for your password in a window of its own.
Please do not start the files of the package by double-clicking in the Finder: macOS blocks that for
files from the internet. Via the Terminal with “bash …” this problem does not occur.

6. Route D – Server on the company network (for the person who looks after the server)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.1 Windows Server (recommended, Windows Server 2019 or newer)
The easiest way is like route B with the graphical installer: on the server, do parts 1 and 2 from
section 4, then choose “Windows Server for a team”. The installer sets up IIS (the web server of
Windows), PHP, HTTPS with its own certificate, the firewall rule and the daily backup. It also works by
remote maintenance from your workstation (“On another server (remote maintenance)”) – Windows then
asks in a window of its own for an administrator account of the server.
At the end the installer shows a setup code; you need it in section 7.
  After that:
    1. Enter the certificate as trusted on the workstations (e.g. through a group policy).
The file is at https://<server name>/zertifikat/mc4y-suite.cer.
    2. Open https://<server name>/ and create the first account (section 7, with the setup code).
    3. In the suite, under “Administration” › “Sign-in (domain)”, switch on sign-in with the Windows
       account if you wish.
    4. Under “Administration” › “Backup”, click “Back up now” and then, in the new row, click “Check”.
Details: public/handbuch-en.html (handbook for operation; open it in the browser).

6.2 Web hosting package (without your own server)
  1. In your provider's customer menu, set PHP 8.2 or newer.
  2. Upload the folders “app”, “public” and “install” and the files “.htaccess” and “konfig.beispiel.php”
by SFTP – including the hidden files (“.htaccess”, “public/.user.ini”). Ideally the domain points
     to the folder “public”.
  3. Open the address. The suite shows “Set up storage”. Enter the code from the file
“ablage-einrichtungscode.txt” (read it by SFTP) and choose a data folder OUTSIDE the web directory.
  4. Create the first account (section 7; the code is in <data folder>/system/einrichtungscode.txt).
  5. For the daily backup, create a cron job: php /path/to/app/cli.php sicherung --auto
For personal data, conclude a data processing agreement with the provider.

6.3 Linux
See install/linux/README.txt. In short, in the unpacked package:
sudo bash install/linux/installieren.sh --probelauf only shows what would happen
sudo bash install/linux/installieren.sh server with Apache and HTTPS
sudo bash install/linux/installieren.sh --einzelplatz only this computer, http://127.0.0.1:8090/
The Linux scripts have not yet been tried out on real systems: look at them with --probelauf first.

7. Creating the first account
-----------------------------
After the installation the browser shows the page “Set up the suite”. The first account becomes the
administrator: it manages users, groups and categories.
  1. In “Organisation”, enter the name of your company or practice (may be left empty).
  2. In “Your name”, enter your name.
  3. In “User name”, enter a name without spaces, for example “anna.muster”.
  4. In “Password”, enter a password of at least 10 characters and repeat it underneath.
Write it down and keep it safe.
  5. On a server only: in “Setup code”, enter the code the installer showed at the end.
  6. Leave the tick box “Also add me to the group ‘All tools – full access’” ticked.
  7. Click “Set up and sign in”.
You now see the start page of the suite with your tools and modules.

8. How to check that it worked
------------------------------
Route A
  - “index.html” shows the page “MC4Y tools” with all the tools.
  - Open a tool, click “Save” and then “Open”: your file comes back.

Routes B and C
  1. In the browser, open the address http://127.0.0.1:8090/ .
You now see the sign-in page of the suite (or the start page, if you are still signed in).
  2. Restart the computer and open the address again.
You now see the sign-in page again – so the suite starts by itself.
  3. In the suite, click “Administration” and then “System check”.
Most rows are green. Yellow rows are recommendations; you should fix red rows.
  4. Under “Administration”, click “Backup” and then “Back up now”.
You now see “Backed up: …” and, in the table, a new row with the occasion “manual”.
  5. In this row, click “Check”.
The result of the check appears under the table.

Route D
As for B and C, but with the address https://<server name>/ – and in addition from a workstation.

9. Common problems
------------------
Windows
  - Blue window “Windows protected your PC”: “More info” › “Run anyway”. In future, do step 5 in section 4
    (“Unblock”) beforehand.
  - The black window closes again immediately: the package has not been unpacked. Please do steps 7
and 8 in section 4 and start “Installer-starten” in the unpacked folder – not inside the ZIP file.
  - In the “Storage locations” step, “Next →” stays grey: there is a red hint under one of the fields.
Read it and choose a different folder or drive.
  - “Port 8090 … is in use”: another program is using this number. In the “Storage locations” step, enter
for example 8091 under “Port”. The address is then http://127.0.0.1:8091/.
  - You do not know an administrator password: ask the person who set up the computer – or take route A,
    which does not need one.

Mac
  - “No such file or directory” or “command not found”: you are not in the package folder. Repeat steps 6
to 8 in section 5 (cd, space, drag the folder into the Terminal, Return).
  - “Sorry, try again.”: the password was wrong. Type it again slowly (upper/lower case, Caps Lock).
  - “… is not in the sudoers file”: your Mac account is not an administrator. Sign in with an
administrator account – or take route A.
  - “Operation not permitted”: the Terminal is not allowed to read the “Downloads” folder. In the Apple
menu, open “System Settings” › “Privacy & Security” › “Files and Folders”, expand “Terminal” and
switch on “Downloads Folder”. Then repeat step 9.
  - “This Mac has macOS 11… The suite needs macOS 12 (Monterey) or newer”: update macOS (section 2) – or
    take route A.
  - “PHP could not be downloaded”: check your internet connection and run step 9 again. Without internet:
the message names a file and an address. Download the file on another computer and put it in a folder
called “voraussetzungen” (German for prerequisites – type the name exactly like that) in the package
    folder.
  - If, when you double-click a file of the package, macOS says “… cannot be opened” or “Apple could not
verify …”: do not start the files of the package by double-clicking, but in the Terminal with “bash …”
    as described in section 5.
  - “Python (3.8 or newer, with tkinter) is missing on this Mac for the taskbar.”: the suite runs anyway.
Install Python from https://www.python.org/downloads/macos/ (“macOS 64-bit universal2 installer”), then
update as in section 10 (route C), but with: bash install/macos/installieren.command --aktualisieren --taskleiste --lang en
  - The taskbar disappears when you close the browser: that is the taskbar in the browser. Start the program
“MC4Y Taskbar” (section 5, “How to start … later”).

All
  - The address http://127.0.0.1:8090/ shows “This site can’t be reached”: wait a minute and reload the
page. If that does not help, restart the computer. If that does not help either, please send the
installation log to support. It is in the program folder and is called “installation_<date>.log”
(Windows: C:\Program Files\MC4Y-Suite or the folder you chose; Mac:
    /Library/Application Support/MC4Y-Suite).
  - You forgot your password (also that of the only administrator account): on the sign-in page click
“Forgot password?”. The recovery code asked for there is created by the person who looks after the
computer with the suite – on a single workstation that is you:
Windows: in Explorer open the folder C:\Program Files\MC4Y-Suite\install\windows (or the program folder
               you chose) and double-click “Kennwort-zuruecksetzen.bat” (German for “reset password”);
confirm the Windows prompt with “Yes”.
      Mac: in the Terminal enter:
               bash "/Library/Application Support/MC4Y-Suite/install/macos/kennwort-zuruecksetzen.command" --lang en
Linux: sudo bash /opt/mc4y-suite/install/linux/kennwort-zuruecksetzen.sh --lang en
Type the user name. You now see a code such as K7PX-QM4R-TV9H (valid for 30 minutes, usable only once).
In the browser enter the user name, the code and a new password. Accounts that sign in with Windows
(domain) have no code – their password is changed in Windows.

10. Updating
------------
When you update, all your content, accounts and settings are kept. The installation backs up the
database itself beforehand.

Route A
  1. Download the new “mc4y-werkzeuge.zip” and unpack it (as in section 3).
  2. Open the new folder, select everything (Windows: Ctrl + A, Mac: cmd + A) and copy it
     (Ctrl + C or cmd + C).
  3. Open your existing tools folder and paste (Ctrl + V or cmd + V).
  4. If the computer asks whether existing files should be replaced: “Replace the files in the
     destination” (Windows) or “Replace” (Mac).
Your saved work is stored elsewhere and is not touched.

Route B (Windows)
Download the new “mc4y-suite.zip” and do section 4 again (parts 1 to 3). In the “New or update” step it
now says “Existing installation found” and “Update” is selected. Just keep clicking on.

Route C (Mac)
Download the new “mc4y-suite.zip” and do section 5 again (steps 1 to 8). Instead of the command in
  step 9, enter:

       bash install/macos/installieren.command --aktualisieren --lang en

Then enter your password. If the desktop taskbar is not there yet, the script asks whether to set it up
as well (Return = yes); if it is already there, whether to update it as well. Then confirm “Run the
update now? (Return = yes) [Y/n]” with Return. The update creates or renews the program “MC4Y Suite” in
the “Applications” folder – also for older installations that did not have it yet.
(“--aktualisieren” is German for “update”; the option names of the scripts are German.)

Route D
As for the installation; the installer recognises the existing installation. Commands for specialists:
  section 13.

11. Removing (uninstalling)
---------------------------
Your content (the data folder) is kept – unless you explicitly delete it.

Route A
Drag the tools folder to the Recycle Bin (Mac: Trash). Your saved files remain.

Route B (Windows)
  1. Open the unpacked package (section 4, part 1) and in it the folder “install” and then “windows”.
(If you no longer have the package: the same folder is in the program folder of the suite, for
     example C:\Program Files\MC4Y-Suite.)
  2. Double-click “deinstallieren”.
  3. Windows asks for administrator rights: “Yes”.
  4. At “Uninstall the suite? (y/n)”, type y and press Enter.
  5. At “Press Enter to close”, press Enter.
(The window speaks the language of Windows. On a computer set to German you see “Suite deinstallieren?
(j/n)” and “Enter druecken zum Schliessen” – j and y both mean “yes”.)
Your content stays in the data folder afterwards (for example C:\ProgramData\MC4Y-Suite-Daten). If you
want to delete that too, delete this folder yourself afterwards.

Route C (Mac)
  1. Open the Terminal (section 5, steps 4 and 5).
  2. Copy this command, paste it and press Return:

       bash "/Library/Application Support/MC4Y-Suite/install/macos/deinstallieren.command" --lang en

  3. Type your password, Return.
  4. At “Uninstall the MC4Y Productivity Suite? [y/N]”, type y (for “yes”) and press Return.
What is removed: the suite, the program “MC4Y Suite”, its own PHP and the hidden system account. Your
content stays in /Library/Application Support/MC4Y-Suite-Daten. If you want it removed too, add a space
and --daten-loeschen to the command in step 2. Later, at “To delete it permanently, type LOESCHEN (German
for DELETE):”, type LOESCHEN exactly like that and press Return.
The desktop taskbar belongs to your user account and stays. To remove it (no password needed):
       bash ~/"Library/Application Support/MC4Y/Taskleiste/deinstallieren-macos.command" --lang en

12. The desktop taskbar
-----------------------
The taskbar is a small bar at the edge of the screen with which you open the suite's tools with one
click – even without an open browser. It is optional.
  - On Windows, the graphical installer sets it up for you (step “Tools”, entry “Desktop taskbar”). On a
Mac, the installation script of the suite offers it (section 5, steps 12 and 13).
  - Afterwards you find it as “MC4Y Taskleiste” in the Start menu (Windows), as “MC4Y Taskbar” in
Launchpad or via Spotlight (Mac) or in the applications menu (Linux). If you wish, it starts by itself
    when you sign in.
  - Do not confuse: the taskbar in the suite under “Your account” › “Appearance” lives in the browser
window and closes with it; the desktop taskbar is a program of its own and stays open.
  - Otherwise, download it in the suite: click your name at the top (page “Your account”) and, in the
section “Desktop taskbar and app”, click the download. Downloaded this way, it already knows the
    address of your suite.
  - The step-by-step guide is in the file “README.txt” in the package mc4y-taskleiste.zip.
The taskbar and its installation script speak English or German – like your system; in the taskbar
you can switch with “DE | EN”.

13. For specialists: commands and options
-----------------------------------------
All scripts are in the package under install/ and, after the installation, in the program folder. Each
has a dry run that changes nothing. They speak English or German like your computer; to choose, add
-Sprache en (Windows) or --lang en (Mac, Linux). The option names themselves are German (for example
--probelauf = dry run, --aktualisieren = update). The command line of the suite (app/cli.php) writes
German unless you add --lang en. In detail: public/handbuch-en.html.

Windows single workstation (without the graphical installer; Command Prompt in the package folder, as a
normal user – Windows asks for administrator rights):
  install\windows\installieren.bat -Probelauf
  install\windows\installieren.bat -PhpZip <php-8.x.y-nts-Win32-vs17-x64.zip> -PhpSha256 <checksum>
without prompts: -Programm E:\MC4Y-Suite -Daten E:\MC4Y-Suite-Daten -SicherungOrdner F:\MC4Y-Suite-Sicherungen
The PHP package is at https://windows.php.net/download/ (“VS17 x64 Non Thread Safe”, checksum next to
it). If PHP does not start, the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime (vc_redist.x64.exe) is missing.

Windows Server with IIS:
  install\windows\installieren-server.bat -PhpZip … -PhpSha256 … -VcRedist C:\Pakete\vc_redist.x64.exe
from a workstation (WinRM, Kerberos; sign-in in the Windows dialog):
  powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File install\windows\auf-server-installieren.ps1 -Server server.firma.local -PhpZip … -PhpSha256 … -VcRedist …

macOS:
  bash install/macos/installieren.command --probelauf
bash install/macos/installieren.command [--daten <folder>] [--port <number>] [--still --ja]
bash install/macos/installieren.command --php-quelle homebrew PHP from Homebrew instead of the own PHP
… --taskleiste | --ohne-taskleiste [--ohne-autostart] desktop taskbar without asking, or not at all
  bash install/macos/installieren.command --hilfe all options
The own PHP: PHP 8.4 from static-php-cli (https://static-php.dev, set “common”), checksum in the script,
under /Library/Application Support/MC4Y-Suite-PHP, from macOS 12 (Intel and Apple chip). Without
internet: put the file named in the error message into “voraussetzungen” in the package folder. In
  detail: install/macos/README.txt.

Linux: install/linux/README.txt.

Updating (always from the NEW, unpacked package; the database is backed up first):
Windows single workstation: installieren.bat -Aktualisieren [-DatenNeu E:\MC4Y-Suite-Daten] [-SicherungenNeu F:\…]
Windows Server: installieren-server.bat -Aktualisieren (or auf-server-installieren.ps1 -Server … -Aktualisieren)
  Linux: sudo bash install/linux/installieren.sh --aktualisieren
  macOS: bash install/macos/installieren.command --aktualisieren [--php-quelle eigen|homebrew]
Web hosting: replace app, public and install (konfig.php and the data folder stay in place)
The scripts take the locations of the installation (program, PHP, data storage, backups, port) from the
existing installation – even if it is not on C:.

Moving the data storage or the backups:
  Windows: install\windows\datenordner-verschieben.ps1 -Ziel E:\MC4Y-Suite-Daten [-Sicherungen F:\MC4Y-Suite-Sicherungen]
  Linux: sudo bash install/linux/datenordner-verschieben.sh <new folder>
  macOS: by hand, see install/macos/README.txt
The previous folders stay where they are until you delete them yourself after checking.

Uninstalling:
Windows: install\windows\deinstallieren.bat or deinstallieren-server.bat (data folder stays; -DatenLoeschen,
then type LOESCHEN, German for DELETE)
  Linux: sudo bash /opt/mc4y-suite/install/linux/deinstallieren.sh [--daten-loeschen]
  macOS: bash "/Library/Application Support/MC4Y-Suite/install/macos/deinstallieren.command" [--daten-loeschen]

Requirements of the suite: PHP 8.2 or newer (8.4 recommended) with pdo_sqlite, mbstring, openssl, fileinfo
and zip; sodium and opcache recommended; ldap for sign-in through Active Directory. No database software is
needed (SQLite is part of PHP). Do not start it from a Nextcloud or other cloud folder – execute permissions
and hidden files such as .htaccess are lost there.

Liability and data protection
-----------------------------
The suite is provided free of charge and without any warranty (see LIZENZ.txt). Whoever installs it runs
it themselves and is responsible for the data stored in it. The suite does not transmit any data to MY
COACHING FOR YOU. Please check the daily backup regularly and copy backups to another storage medium from
time to time.

The single-workstation installation on the Mac has been tried out on a real device (October 2026). Server
operation on macOS and the Linux scripts are written according to the documentation but have not yet been
tried out on real devices. I would be glad to receive feedback.
